Review our trip-planning page for more details about accessing the Tukga Hut.
11/4/25: Winter has begun at the Tukga Hut, which means extremely variable weather. The snow has started falling, and early-season avalanche conditions may exist. Snow line is currently around 2400ft. Hut users should be familiar with backcountry travel, remote navigation, and pack for extreme weather.
Winter 2026 Bookings are open!
Please review our trip planning page before booking winter dates. Travel to the Tukga Hut during winter can be dangerous in many ways. Those inexperienced with avalanche danger, backcountry travel, and remote navigation (there is no trail after 1500ft in the winter) should not book the hut during this period.
Fall/Winter 2025/26 Booking, Pricing and Cancellations
The Tukga Hut is available for fall/winter bookings. The fall and winter pricing, which covers our maintenance, propane, and outhouse costs, is as follows:
Minimum $150 per night for 6 people, +$25 per-person/night after that.

Policies: No commercial use is permitted at this time. For non-profit and education purposes, please reach out to nate@haineshuts.org.
Haines Residents: Haines residents who sign up for a membership to support HHT will receive 50% off all hut bookings. This is our thanks to the Haines community for all of the volunteer labor, donations, and stoke that made the Tukga Hut a reality.
Cancellations: Cancellations that take place 30 or more days out receive a full refund, cancellations 14-30 days out receive a 50% refund. Cancellations within 14-days are non-refundable. Advanced booking decisions should be made with awareness that the ferry and road system can close and shut Haines off from the rest of the world sporadically throughout the year.
Quick Details
The hike-in Tukga Hut is a culmination of over 10-years of deliberation, planning, community fundraising, and thousands of hours of volunteer labor. Located on the Southern flanks of Mt Tukgahgo, at ~3200′, and approximately 8 miles North of downtown Deishu/Haines, the Tukga Hut is the only public use cabin in Haines. The Hut is available through our reservation system seen on the right. Before booking, please review this page, as well as our trip planning page.
Included in Rental
The Tukga hut is a two-story hut equipped with an outhouse, propane heater, stove, kitchen with dishes and utensils, loft and sleeping platforms, and the most incredible views in the world. The Hut can accomodate and sleep up to 8 adults very comfortably, or up to 12 if maxed out.
What to Bring
Please read through the “Trip Planning” tab under Tukga Hut, but food, water/water filter, weather-appropriate clothing, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, personal items, headlamps and other light sources are all good things to have with you.
What We Ask of You
The Tukga Hut was built by volunteers and funded by our community. As you can imagine, building, maintaining, and managing a building at 3200’ in SE Alaska is not easy, especially without the support of everyone involved. Throughout your stay, please respect the guidelines put in place to ensure the Hut remains clean, safe, and operational indefinitely. Our reservation prices are based on our operating costs, so please be honest about the number of people you have staying at the hut.
Getting There
Parking for the Tukga Hut is at the 7-Mile Saddle Trailhead (also labeled the Ripinski Trailhead on roadsigns). Google Maps , Apple maps , Coordinates: 59.26630, -135.60523
From the parking lot, the Hut is a 2.3-mile and 3,200ft elevation gain hike. The trail is steep and strenuous, please make sure everyone in the group understands this and is thoroughly prepared. Review our “Trip Planning” page for more information on summer vs winter travel to the hut.
Booking and Cancellation Policy
We are trying to balance long-term booking, which is usually done by visitors and booked up quickly, with enabling community members to use the hut on short notice. We also have certain booking advantages associated with our membership levels, to encourage donations and support of our organization, so that we’re able to maintain the hut and fund other projects in the future. These factors lead to our booking system being a little more complicated than most, so please bear with us.
Visit our membership page to learn about Tukga Hut discounts and booking advantages for our supporters.
