Story Trails
The Story Trails project aims to provide place-based interactive learning opportunities through short podcasts and children’s stories, which are accessible via QR code at various viewpoints on trails around Haines. Currently, we have two Story Trail locations: Lily Lake Road and the Jones Point Trail (Takshanuk Watershed Council’s Trail).
The Pyramid Island Viewpoint viewpoint on Lily Lake Road includes a volunteer-constructed local-spruce bench where you can sit and listen to podcasts on the geologic origin of Pyramid Island, the Pyramid Island survey marker, and children’s stories. Haines Huts and Trails was given permission to build the viewpoint on Borough Land, which involved brushing for a more expansive view, installing signage, and doing some minor trail work projects, all of which was completed by volunteers in June of 2025.
At the Takshanuk Watershed Council’s Jones Point Trail, you can find the audio library at the picnic shelter, where you can sit protected from the elements and learn about the ecology and geology of the area from TWC staff and local Haines students.
